(English) Graphic Design in Practice!

During graphic design studies at art academies and universities the schedule is full of lectures, theory classes, like philosophy, history of art, modern art, and practical classes are not connected directly to design like painting or drawing.

A college graduate is a well-educated person, with a bog knowledge of art and design, not only of technical skills, which is the concept of higher education. But anyway, graphic design students want to know more and want to know how to use their knowledge and skills in practice, in real life after graduation when they look for work.

A way to get know it is to organize a conference about that at a university! One of them, “Agrafa” organized in Katowice in Poland took place last Friday”. “Agrafa. 4th International Design Conference ” was connected with the biennale exhibition of students works and workshops. Guests from abroad talked about different aspects of design. Ingrid van der Wacht from the Netherlans had a lecture on making projects for city and citizenships, Hilary Kenna from IADT School of Creative Arts in Dublin was talking about approaches to solving information overload through the creation of a visual search and discovery product. Guests from Germany — Matthias Laschke (Folkwang Universität der Künste, Essen) discussed “Pleasurable Troublemakers and an Aesthetic of Friction”.

Also, workshops were organized by international designers, like “Show me Your Type” by Verena Gerlach from Berlin.

The another one conference is going to be in Poznań in next month, called  “Elementarz Projkanta” (designer’s elementary), concentrated on really needed and practical aspects in work as a designer.

It is the second one. Last year in the program we could acquire information about law and how to prepare an agreement for clients, and topics about preparing own office, how to evaluate the work and how to work with freelancers. This year they will set up an exhibition of the best graduation projects from University of Arts in Poznań.

It is going to be so interested and useful for participants, so I can’t wait for it!
