The Garden of Communities, planned for the center of Gyárkert KultúrPark in Veszprém, is an artwork that celebrates the rich culture of the Veszprém-Balaton region.

The pavilion is a symbolic monument to the cooperation of the 116 municipalities participating in the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program. The region’s native tree saplings in planter boxes form a colorful and biodiverse vertical garden, while the contrast of geometric architectural forms and lush vegetation creates a magical atmosphere.

The healthy development of vegetation is ensured by an automated irrigation system built into the structures. The fact that one of the largest furniture factories in the region operated on the site for around 120 years was also a key factor—the planter box enclosures are a reminder of this historical heritage.

“For each municipality participating in the VEB2023 program, we designed a unique planter box, each planted with a sapling, with the name of the municipality clearly displayed on the side. The Garden of Communities promotes the eternal values of community collaboration,” the project’s architect Balázs Szelecsényi pointed out.
