Sea Stone resembling concrete both in terms of looks and components is manufactured out of discarded seashells.
The shells piling up on shores as a side product of seafood and aquaculture industries usually end up in the landfill, but London and Seoul-based studio Newtab-22 figured out a way how to utilize it. As seashells are rich in calcium carbonate – otherwise known as limestone – a material quite similar to concrete can be made out of them.
To do that, they combine the ground seashells with a natural, non-toxic binder. They primarily intend the terrazzo-like end result for small-scale use, such as manufacturing tiles or various design products.
