A house made of hemp that blends into its environment

This extraordinary building, situated in the Homolje Mountains, Serbia, is the result of an unconventional collaboration: it was designed by the Swiss Bach Mühle Fuchs architecture studio and architect and interdisciplinary artist Ljubica Arsić.

The aim of the architects was the creation of a building that blends into its environment, which can be interpreted as a human-made work of art on its own, rather than an imitation of the landscape. As an autonomous object, it hovers above the hill and is oriented towards the highest elevation on the horizon, and it’s made of natural materials—the walls are made of hemp lime and the load-bearing structure of wood.
