BIG to design a loop-shaped skyscraper

Danish architectural studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has designed a research and development center for the Chinese OPPO smartphone manufacturer in Hangzhou, called O-Tower.

The shape of the skyscraper is described by BIG as an infinite loop that connects “ground to sky in a continuous loop of collaboration”. According to the architect’s office, this form will reduce energy consumption and also expresses OPPO’s, China’s largest smartphone maker’s commitment to innovation. In the embrace of the O-tower, we can also find an open courtyard.

The building will be located along a major access road, set between a natural lake, an urban center and a 10000-square-meter park. With this special position, the O-Tower will serve as a new reference point for the future science and technology center of Hangzhou.
