A smart face mask prototype from Romania wins MIT prize

The Social Mask, designed by Romanian engineer Burzo Ciprian to detect Covid-19 particles in its environment, has won the top prize in the MIT Media Lab competition.

The minimalist, transparent face mask could be connected to smartphones via a biosensor, where the users would be able to track the number of surrounding air-borne pathogens via an app. This way, we could collect data that would also map the people around us, thus calculating the risk of Covid-19 infection.
