Houses floating on the ocean

Many people think about how the coastal areas under great threats of flooding due the effects of climate change could be saved. Here’s a new solution, this time from a studio based in the Philippines.

As shocking as it sounds, countless settlements might be endangered by rising sea levels caused by climate change already in the next 50 years. The floating village designed by Manila-based studio DADA Design consists of houses that can resist the tides and storms of the sea.

The sail-shaped houses of the project titled Current for Current are powered by solar and tidal energy exclusively. Their modular design allows them to be arranged both together in floating towns, or as lone units. The concept originally envisioned for the Phillippine coast can, of course, be adapted for other oceanfront locations, too.
