IASAI Bar | Bratislava

IASAI Bar | Bratislava

IASAI food bar located in Bratislava’s historic old town gives you much more than a simple culinary experience. Its atmospheric space swallows the guests, so they can leave the outside world behind during the dinner, and they can only concentrate on the present.

The IASAI Japanese food bar opened in Bratislava old town in 2018, and belongs to the places that have that certain extra– something that inexplicably makes us have fun in the space, as it activates all our sense organs. The originators of the restaurant did not simply want to create a cool and urban unit, but a high-end gastro brand, where the beautiful interior is only a “simple” element. The concept, the design, the menu and the interior design are almost inseparable at IASAI – probably this complexity is what gives its magic.

The company Milk Design Directors was responsible for branding, while PLUSMINUSARCHITECTS in Bratislava designed the interior. The space was provided by a historic palace, so the architects could work with a quite promising raw material: the arched ceiling gives a unique character to the space in itself. Apart from the basic architecture, everything is modern in the interior, and its freshness comes especially from the bold combination of materials and styles – including the mixing of anthracite, steel, neon tubes and raw wood, or the ombre painted walls.

One of the greatest strengths of ISAI bar is the deliberately designed lighting: the lights guide the guests through the dinner so as to complement the gastronomical experience. The lighting almost puts the chef working in the middle of the oval counter of the main room on stage, without overaccentuating it. This discrete attitude can be felt also in the dimly lighted corridor, the toilets and the private room bathed in blue light.

All in all, IASAI is the harmonic combination of Japanese simplicity and urban design. It places visitors outside of space and time in the best possible sense.
