IKEA built in Vienna, recalling a series of massive shelving units

IKEA announces the completion of its store in Vienna, designed by Querkraft Architekten, defined by its shelf-like green façades, green roof terrace and no car parking. During the initial design stages of the project, IKEA told the architects ‘we want to be a good neighbor.’ In response to this objective, the building takes shape to introduce an added value for its urban context.

The seven-story complex seeks to fulfil its mission with an open air roof terrace, a café and a hotel, as well. What is more, approximately 160 large potted trees were placed on the blacons and terraces of the façade, which noticeably affects the microclimate.
