Ludwig Museum celebrating the 30th anniversary of its foundation last year has won the Museum of the Year Award in 2020. It is the first time that the award established by Pulszky Society, the professional organization of museums was awarded to an institution purely focusing on contemporary art.
Ludwig Museum won the Museum of the Year 2020 award in the category of large museums, out of 12 nominees. Owing to its vast Central Eastern European collection gathered over the past years, as well as its pioneering work in the field of media art and preserving digital content (MAPS international conferences), the Budapest-based museum has become a defining contemporary art museum of the region. In the past period, its exhibitions showcasing the contemporary art aspirations of the region, including former Yugoslavian, Albanian and Kosovan, Polish, Slovakian and Ukrainian contemporary arts, have also been in the spotlight of international attention.
In addition to the exhibitions and the scientific results reached in researching contemporary arts, the institution was also praised at the competition for its work in the field of museum pedagogy, as well as its visitor-friendly structure established in the spirit of social responsibility.
