Polar bears have moved into abandoned Russian houses

Unusual scenes have been captured by a Russian nature photographer, Dmitry Kokh. The abandoned meteorological station on the Kolyuchin Islands has new residents: polar bears have moved into the abandoned houses.

Even though the photographer expected to encounter polar bears during his 1200-mile expedition, the location and context was a pleasant surprise. The photo centering the bear resting his arm on a windowsill was recognized in a competition organized by National Geographic, winning first place in the ‘urban jungle’ category.
