New York could be saved by expanding Manhattan

The city that never sleeps, where dreams are supposed to come true, needs to solve two pressing problems as soon as possible. One is caused by the climate crisis and the other poses ever-looming problems for city dwellers due to population growth. These two issues could be solved simultaneously by expanding Manhattan.

Jason Barr, a professor at Rutgers University, has come up with a proposal to solve housing shortages and the growing problems caused by the climate crisis by expanding the island. The area, called New Manhattan, could be home to 274,000 people, and its development could help protect the island from increasingly frequent and destructive storms and flooding.
