Timișoara Architecture Biennial 2022 launched

Organized for the fourth time, the Timișoara Architecture Biennial in Romania will host a month of exhibitions, debates, and guided tours of the city.

From 23 September to 23 October, Timișoara will be all about architecture, urbanism, and design thanks to the Timișoara Architecture Biennial (BETA). This year’s program will be organized around the theme “The city as a common good” and will seek to tackle global and pressing problems at a local level. At the same time, everyone is encouraged to play an active role in city development, making them more inclusive, sustainable, and enjoyable.

The main exhibition of the biennial, Another Breach in the Wall, is dedicated to projects that challenge the norms and conventions of the past in order to make urban spaces more livable. The program is curated by Daniel Tudor Munteanu and Davide Tommaso Ferrando. And in the photography exhibition The Line, two photographers, Laurian Ghinițoiu and Dorin Ștefan Adam explore the lines, thresholds, and borders that separate or connect public spaces. During the month-long event, a number of small exhibitions and debates will be hosted on the topic of urban development.

Non-professionals can also find exciting activities in the repertoire: thematic city tours are regularly organized, offering a bunch of new things to discover in Timișoara not only for visitors but also for locals. On bike or on foot, you can learn during these tours how the urban fabric has been shaped by construction or demolition, and what kinds of development booms it has gone through during the urbanization of the Habsburg era or the socialist centralization.
