In the editorial team of Hype&Hyper, we follow a lot of talented Ukrainian designers, artists and brands with unique visions, and we have always tried to give them a platform to showcase their work. In light of the current situation, we feel it’s important not to lose sight of them and support them as much as possible! In our newly launched series, we’ve gathered together these characters and brands that are dear to us.
BEVZA
The trademark of the globally popular brand BEVZA is a simple and minimalist style based on Ukrainian traditions. In the columns of Hype&Hyper, we also wrote about their spring 2021 collection, which dealt with one of the oldest and most exciting aspects of their history, the Trypillian culture that glorifies women. In our autumn print issue, we made an interview with the founder of the brand, Svitlana Bevza.
Their latest collection is called ‘The Love Letters’. BEVZA associates the concept of love with caring, and caring is expressed in their interpretation of finding a way to make our Earth a better place for all of us.
“The seas submit themselves only to the brave,” they shared their Ukrainian national colored paper boat bags on their Instagram page.
Makhno Studio
Makhno Studio was founded in 2003 by Sergey Makhno in Kyiv, and since then they have more than 600 projects behind them in various parts of the world. Their mission is to consolidate the modern Ukrainian style, which can stand out on the international stage.
They deal with architecture, interior design and product design, and their projects are immersed in the warmth of home and nature. The apartment here, called Mazanka, is located in a skyscraper in Kyiv: it uses ancient Ukrainian building technologies and all the lamps were designed by them. Mazanka is a small farmhouse built of wood, clay and reed in Ukrainian. “Ukraine is an independent, strong and talented country, and we are very proud to be a Ukrainian brand. We love our home, we respect our traditions, and we will always support our nation,” they write.
Hvóya
Hvóya is a Ukrainian shoe and bag brand. They combine comfort and femininity to design pieces in which women can be liberated, fast and mobile. They pay special attention to the heels of the shoes with which they wish to fulfill the idea of a new femininity. The Hyóva Kyiv brand is also associated with a design store where you can choose from the clothes of Ukrainian fashion designers in addition to their own products.
“Can we go back to the life before the war? Definitely not. Our whole team’s life has changed. Kyiv. Ukraine. Some may never return to their hometown. We can only hope that one day we can meet again, return to our home in Kyiv, so that we can live there and continue to create,” they said.
