The future of the plastic ski slope built on top of Copenhagen’s waste-to-energy power plant in 2019 is in serious doubt. The facility was designed by BIG, and founder Bjarke Ingels once described it as an example of hedonistic sustainability.
According to reports in the Danish press, Copenhill could be forced to close permanently due to the rapid deterioration of the ski area. In a statement, the operator admitted that its condition was deteriorating faster than expected but denied that it would have to close. The Copenhagen Post reports that repairing the four-hundred-meter-long ski slope could cost one and a half million dollars, raising questions about the sustainability of the complex.
