Spanish photographer presents Europe from an unusual perspective in his latest exhibition

An exhibition featuring the work of Antonio Benítez Barrios, a prominent figure in Spanish contemporary photography, opens on 14 April at the Cervantes Institute, entitled Fading Europe. The photographer’s work reflects on the past and, through it, the present with a unique approach to our built environment. To accompany the exhibition, Antonio Benítez Barrios will hold a photography workshop on 13 and 14 April, where he will give an insight into his working method and share the professional secrets behind his photographs.

Photographer-journalist Antonio Benítez Barrios started his career as a socio-photographer at the age of just 15. He began working on his pieces for the Fading Europe exhibition six years ago.

“My aim with this photo essay is to show and reflect those geographical landscapes of Europe where I set off, looking for the places where the past is dying, accumulating, piling up. I have discovered that the past refuses to disappear, that it actually stops in these empty spaces, that it feels at home here… and even transforms them,” the photographer emphasized.

You can visit the free exhibition from 12 April to 31 May at the Cervantes Institute. The event is part of the Budapest Photo Festival.
