Star studio Zaha Hadid Architects to design new metro stations in Ukraine's industrial city

Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled plans for a new metro station in Dnipro, one of Ukraine’s major industrial centers. The three new stations (Teatralna, Tsentralna and Muzeina) will open in 2025.

The project is part of an ongoing program to modernize Dnipro’s public transport network, with new stations connecting residents, businesses, cultural and scientific institutions in the eastern areas of the town with the city center and the Dnipro-Holovnyi railway terminal. The extension of the metro line will thus reduce congestion in the city center, with easy access to parks, beaches and leisure facilities on the banks of the Dnipro River.

The entrance pavilions to the new metro stations draw on the city’s engineering, metallurgy and manufacturing heritage. The new landmarks will feature recycled steel structures from local foundries, with sculptural forms that reflect the town’s expertise in steel craftsmanship. In addition, the ticket halls at each station will have a unique design, while the internal walkways and platforms will share a cohesive formal and spatial logic, giving identity to the metro stations in Dnipro.
