The Nakagin capsule house in Tokyo could be rebuilt

The iconic Nakagin capsule house was designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa in the 1970s—at the time of its inauguration, it was the world’s first capsule building. The building has been in the process of demolition, but now it may be saved.

Architecture enthusiasts have been anxiously awaiting news that the Kurokawa-designed building was due to be demolished since the mid-2000s, but work only started earlier this year. A new twist in the story is that the late Kurokawa’s studio has now started auctioning NFT on the Opensea marketplace, which would give the owners the right to reconstruct the tower. According to the plans, the tower could be used as a holiday home, temporary accommodation, or as mobile homes that could be moved ‘to the best area for each season.’
