The world’s second-tallest tower planned to be built in St Petersburg

Scottish architecture studio Kettle Collective has unveiled designs for their 703-meter high skyscraper, which would be the second tallest building in the world after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. The 105-story structure, called Lakhta Center II, is due to be located in the Russian port town of St Petersburg.

Lakhta Center II would sit next to the Lakhta Center, home to the headquarters of Russian energy firm Gazprom and currently the tallest building in Russia. Kettle Collective’s designs render the building with a glazed spiral structure enclosed in a metal exoskeleton. This form is both aesthetic and functional, reducing wind forces that will impact the structure, and in turn, reducing the size of structural elements required within the building, said Tony Kettle, founder of the Collective.
