The forest hideout of the Uhlík Architekti in Prague is, at first glance, just a strange black box sitting on a large rock. However, opening the walls reveals an exciting and compact cabin in which we can hide from the world.
The client of the cabin longed for a quiet refuge deep in the woods, where they could retreat from the daily grind in Prague. Walking on the site, the architects were immediately captivated by the richness of the landscape: it is located among forests, fields and meadows, full of strange rocks, the whole place has a very distant and forgotten atmosphere. The dark exterior of the tiny shelter is given by charred wood. When the building is closed, it doesn’t reveal much about itself, most like a storage room. However, opening both sides of the dark box shows huge windows to the forest view. The architects worked exclusively with local wood brought from the neighboring forest and a lumber yard nearby. The interior is made of plywood, with stairs dividing the multifunctional space in two: you can sit, work, relax and even sleep here, as the top floor can be converted into a double bed. The steps also function as a storage.
