What's new at this year’s Sziget Festival

The organizers promise that this year the region’s biggest music event will be more sustainable, more spectacular, and more comfortable.

“Since its inception, Sziget has been constantly evolving, becoming more attractive and innovative in various areas every year. However, last year, following the two-year hiatus, we were happy that we even managed to survive the difficulties that many couldn’t, and that appeared on several fronts,” said Tamás Kádár, Sziget’s chief organizer, at the press conference for the 2023 festival. This year, however, the festival wants to do much more than just survive: it wants to move forward and develop again.

Sziget will be much more spectacular this year, with several venues getting new designs and improved sound and lighting technology. The hugely popular and internationally unique Art of Freedom will return, bringing its breathtaking artwork and the visual power of spectacular spatial installations to the exciting world of Sziget. And for the comfort of guests, mobile toilets will be replaced by fixed facilities throughout, while various measures have been taken to ensure that last year’s huge clouds of dust don’t return. The food courts will also see some innovations: although the classic festival dishes will remain, several renowned Hungarian restaurants will be present, and a budget course has also been introduced, where each catering outlet must serve at least one dish that can be purchased for a maximum of 2500 HUF. Another key objective is to offer dishes that can be prepared with a smaller carbon footprint. In terms of going green, the organizers will try to use electric vehicles wherever possible. In order to protect the local flora, a part of the coastal forest will be closed, waste will be further reduced and recycling will be increased accordingly.

Some of the biggest names coming to Sziget will include Florence + the Machine, Imagine Dragons, David Guetta, Mumford & Sons, Lorde, Macklemore, and Billie Eilish, but leading Hungarian acts will also be performing, such as Halott Pénzt, Carson Coma and Dzsudló.
