Some 38 classic cars have parked up inside the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao as part of a new exhibition exploring the links between the automotive industry and the world of art, design and architecture.
Curated by English architect and designer Norman Foster, the exhibition Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture, looks back on more than a century of automotive art, while exploring its many connections with fine art and architecture. This fascinating selection of vehicles, artworks and architectural documents highlights the sector’s most significant technological achievements and links them with their social and cultural impact. Car fanatics can examine some 38 iconic vehicles, including the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. They’re surrounded by paintings, sculptures, photographs and various architectural models, all inspired by the form and purpose of the automotive.
Many of the exhibited works are drawn from Norman Foster’s private collection and include works by Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Dorothea Lange and Edward Ruscha. A section of the exhibition also focuses on the future of mobility, with speculative projects from 16 international design schools. Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture is open from 8 April to 18 September.
