The MOME Fashion Show is back, presenting the latest generation of fashion designers

Deep, sensitive, fresh – In sync with international fashion week calendars, top fashion and textile designer talents will claim the limelight in early October at the two-day traditional MOME Fashion Show on the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) Campus. The new generation has also been greatly influenced by global developments such as the energy and climate crisis, resulting in a strong focus on sustainability, innovative new materials, diversity, and inclusion in their works.

Co-organised by head of the MOME Fashion and Textile Design MA programme and founder of KELE Clothing Ildikó Kele, and teacher of the university and founder of the TOMCSANYI brand Dóra Tomcsányi, the MOME Fashion Show historically draws a great deal of attention and a full house. The event is designed to provide the university’s fashion and textile design students with an opportunity to debut their creations and give the wider public an insight into the issues engaging the future designer generations.

The grand-scale fashion show on 5 and 6 October will feature collections by 11 BA and 4 MA students, while the accompanying exhibition will showcase the works of 5 BA and 11 MA students alongside two Jewellery Design MA students. This year, MOME’s alumni community will be represented by fashion designer Nóra Sármán and her creations.

Dóra Tomcsányi let on that the diploma project concepts of BA students this year revolved around the search for identity. “For the last assignment concluding their BA studies, they drew inspiration from the works of contemporary Hungarian artists, identifying intersections between their own artistic sensitivity, world view and professional aspirations and the chosen artwork”, she said, describing the completed projects.

According to Ildikó Kele, the students were mostly interested in sustainability, innovative experimentation with traditional techniques, inclusivity, and self-awareness. She went on to add that MOME’s training provides an optimal setting for unfolding concepts and constructing individual designer languages as it “encourages a responsible mindset by combining creative processes, research, craftsmanship, and technology. We believe that collaboration and knowledge transfer between different fields lead to original ideas, innovative solutions, and positive changes.”

Regarding the hallmarks of all fashion designers graduating from MOME, Dóra Tomcsányi believes that “whether global brands or emerging artists, MOME graduates are immediately recognisable for the depth, sensitivity, and innovative thinking expressed in their works”.

MOME’s Fashion and Textile Design MA programme and its predecessor have been training outstanding professionals for over a century, many of whom receive international accolades and go on to become sought-after designers.

The alumni of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design include acclaimed textile and fashion industry professionals such as Noémi Ferenczy, Barbara Léber, Bori Tóth, Anikó Manier Németh, Dóra Konsánszky, Réka Vágó, Emília Anda, András Tóth, Attila Godena-Juhász and Eszter Füzes, Dalma Dévényi, Tibor Kiss – and the list goes on. After graduation, students can join major global labels including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chloé, Balenciaga, Vetements, Acne Studios, Proenza Schooler, Marc Cain, Adidas, Nike, Burton or North Face, as well as Hungarian fashion brands such as Nanushka, Aeron, Nubu, Tomcsányi or The Four.

The MOME Fashion Show will take place on 5 and 6 October 2023 at the MOME Campus (H-1121 Zugligeti út 9.).  Tickets already went on sale and are available at  https://mome.hu/hu/events/mome-fashion-show-2023
