Electron Aviation claims we will only have to wait a few years to bypass traffic jams and fly off-schedule.
For decades, movies set in the future have predicted that people will travel by air instead of by road. This Dutch start-up might not replace road travel, but it would make flying much more accessible and environmentally friendly. Electron Aviation would use zero-emission, electric small planes offering a flight system where passengers have the freedom to choose when and where they fly—in short, they would operate air taxis, with promises of starting as early as 2027.
The company has signed a contract with Netherlands-based Twente Airport (close to the German border), from where the planes would depart and travel up to 500 km, allowing passengers to land in Berlin, London, or Paris within two hours. The design of the five-seater battery-powered aircraft is currently being developed, but it is already certain that design and experience will be taken into account, with the current version incorporating a large panoramic window to make the view on the move even more special. As for booking, this will be done via an app—again, to make things easier for passengers.
