Flóra Anna Buda’s animated film 27 won the award for best short film at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this weekend.
The eleven-minute animation 27 won the best short film category at Cannes. The film, by Flóra Anna Buda, currently residing in France, stars twenty-seven-year-old Alíz (dubbed by Natasa Stork), who lives with her brother and mother, and after a night of partying, realizes it is time to face adult life.
The young artist graduated from Animation MA at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. When writing the story, she drew a lot from her own life and from her own experiences as a young adult, but in an interview she said that the basic idea was porn. As she told Telex, “I was wondering if I ever made a porn film, how I could sneak in, say, a bit of social sensitivity.” Flóra Anna Buda has previously been recognized at the Berlin International Film Festival, where she received the Teddy Award for Best Short Film for her animated film Entropia. There was another Hungarian aspect at this year’s Cannes event, as well, as the joint international jury of La Cinef selection of the best short films and film schools was chaired this year by director Ildikó Enyedi.
