Until the end of February, visitors to Le Bon Marché in Paris will encounter two giant icebergs hanging from the ceiling. Envisioned by contemporary Turkish artist Mehmet Ali Uysal and titled SU, the installation draws attention to global warming.
With this three-part work, the artist wants to paint a picture of a hopeful future. From the outside, you can already see the first act placed in the windows, evoking the melting of glaciers. Once you enter the atrium, the icebergs hanging from the ceiling make it seem as if the place was completely submerged. The third and final act of the installation is a seventeen by eight-meter white boat, shaped like the paper boats we used to make as kids. It represents a way out, like Noah’s ark.
