Mattel presents first Barbie doll with Down’s syndrome

Mattel is partnering with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in the US to make the doll as lifelike as possible.

The toymaker is looking to strengthen its inclusive line with a new addition to the world’s most iconic doll family. Her body shape has been modified accordingly, with a shorter stature and a longer-than-average torso. In addition, symbols associated with Down’s syndrome have been added to the doll’s clothing, which features butterflies and yellow and blue colors.
