The Sego Charger is a foldable origami solar panel that fits easily into your backpack or pocket and provides PV power on the go.
The foldable origami solar panel can be used to charge personal and travel devices such as GPS and radio transmitters. Simply plug your devices directly into the solar panel to ensure power is supplied. The solar panel is easy to carry and attaches with durable hinges.
The Sego Charger team was helped by years of experience working with NASA engineers: their aim was to replicate the origami technique used by the space agency for solar panels employed in space travel. The research inspired them to develop a similar concept for ground use, aimed at travelers and backpacking enthusiasts.
The design team has laminated the Sego Charger with multiple materials to make it weather-resistant and virtually dust and dirt-free. The foldable origami solar panel is expected to be offered in 50-watt, 100-watt, and even 400+-watt panels, depending on the needs of travelers. They hope to release the first unit in the second quarter of 2024.
