The candelabra of the Chain Bridge are up for auction

In August, the fourteen candelabra of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge will be sold by auction.


Owned by the Municipality of Budapest, the collection will be sold by a public, one-round electronic auction starting at 10 a.m. on 14 August 2023. The candelabra are of various types, ranging from complete, long candelabras consisting of a luminaire, a post, and a pedestal, to short ones consisting of a luminaire and a post only. The presence or absence of ornamentation has also given rise to different price ranges for each item.

The renovation of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge since the summer of 2021 has also included the renewal of the candelabra, with the involvement and supervision of heritage conservation experts, the reconstruction of thirty-two columns and twenty-four candelabra has been performed, including four surviving from the Széchenyi-era.
