The most promising new wave bands in Eastern Europe | TOP 5

Discovering new bands is always a refreshing change on gray weekdays, especially if we’re just getting bored of our current playlists and want to update them by adding a few more special songs. In our selection today, we present bands from the region that dazzle us not only with their unique sound but also with the visuals of their professionally staged music videos!

Tús Nua | Croatia

The Croatian Tús Nua, who has been releasing new songs since 2014, has already won acclaim from audiences and critics on several occasions. With the debut of their first album, they were on the top charts in their home country, and after their concert introducing their new record in Zagreb, the American KEXP Radio chose their song Fight! as the hit of the day.

Fiordmoss | Czech Republic

Originally from Prague but now based in Berlin, the story of Fiordmoss is by no means ordinary: the members had studied at the same art university before the band was founded, and they all lived in the same apartment, but their vinyl records and some instruments were destroyed in a fire. However, the shocking situation forged them together and the losses were turned into profits by forming a joint band.

Lor | Poland

The members of Lor, who represent the folklore line, were still teenagers when the band was created, but already in the first years of their career, they won an online talent competition twice. The band released their latest album in 2020, which consists of seven songs, and features unusual effects such as the sound of the phone ringing or the singers laughing during the songs.

Molchat Doma | Belarus

Although they have emerged as an exciting colorful addition to the underground bands a couple of years ago, Molchat Doma still debuted in the first half of 2020 when their song Sudno (Boris Ryzhy) became popular on one of the video-sharing sites. With its grim, lethargic lyrics and depictions of cities with modernist buildings in their clips, the band wants to paint a realistic picture of the overcast mood of post-socialist countries.

DLRM | Hungary

The name of the DLRM, which plays alternative and psychedelic rock, may sound familiar from several places, as the band has been attending smaller and larger summer festivals for years, but they have often turned up in clubs in both the capital and the countryside. The songs of their latest album, released in the spring, were recorded in a hunting lodge in Bakony, which is cut off from the world. They like to experiment with unusual solutions not only in the music, but also in their videos: the special pictorial world of their video for their song Bogáncs was created by photographing film reels from old analog machines.
