Hassan Ragab’s spectacular project blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy, with a series of images that transform historical buildings into clouds of smoke.
Architect and interdisciplinary artist Hassan Ragab has created a series of ominous images using AI technology that shake up the world of scenic design. The surrealistic creations of A State of Decay were made using a program called Midjourney.

Midjourney is a chat-based, AI-based image-generation software that can produce realistic images and artworks following textual instructions. Founded by David Holz and created by a team at an independent research lab, Midjourney seeks to expand the human imagination by exploring possible new platforms for augmented thinking.

n the images, each element of the beautiful Art Nouveau-style houses, even the glass windows, seem to sublimate at the snap of a finger, morphing into a sinister cloud of smoke and disappearing into thin air. The Egyptian artist blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction, contrasting the buildings’ hard stone facades with the smoke’s fluidity in a spectacular way.
