For the twelfth time, LASVIT has created the Tour de France trophy, which this year was once again designed by ŠKODA AUTO’s Head of Interior Design Peter Olah.
Jonas Vingegaard celebrated his victory after covering more than 3,300 kilometers in the 109th edition of the cycling race—he received the crystal glass trophy in Paris, created by the Czech glass and design company.
The sixty-centimeter tall trophies weigh four kilograms and were made using traditional Czech glass production methods by LASVIT in Nový Bor, using a single piece of hand-blown and hand-cut crystal glass. Thanks to the symmetrical cut, the trophy plays with the light, refracting it in different ways depending on which direction one looks at it.
“This year, the Tour de France trophies were inspired by the art of Czech glassmaking, and they aim to symbolize the transient nature of the moment: the trophy is in a way similar to the sport of cycling, where even after one achieves moments of exaltation and triumph, one must continue to strive to be the best they can in order to stay on top. The trophy’s design also symbolizes the motifs of bicycling, its dynamism and energy,” explains Peter Olah.
