The list of the 96 animated short films that will be considered for an Oscar in 2021 has been published: the longlist also features a Hungarian creation, a short film by Géza M. Tóth.
Géza M. Tóth’s animated short film Matches has a good shot of being nominated for an Oscar. In the 11-minute animation, a little boy is playing with colorful matches that come to life while he talks about his dreams, fears and wishes. Matches won the Light in Motion prize awarded to the best international animated film at the 32nd Foyle Film Festival in 2019. Whether it will make it amongst the nominees from the longlist containing 96 short films will be revealed later on in January.
Géza M. Tóth has already been nominated for an Oscar in 2007 for his film Maestro. In addition to Matches, the current longlist also features another Hungarian production: Nadja Andrasev’s 12-minute animated short movie Symbiosis tells the story of a deceived wife, who begins a bizarre investigation of her husband’s infidelities.
