After the holidays, we return to the gray, cold, windy January days. Although winter will stay with us for another two months, we can already start planning the route of our first spring hike. For our readers’ pleasure, we present the magnificent region of Upper Carniola in northern Slovenia, where snow-capped mountain peaks, picturesque waterfalls and emerald lakes meet.
If you want to take a slightly longer trip while visiting as many natural treasures as possible, this tour starting from Kranjska Gora is the perfect choice. In the first part, you can also choose to go by bike, as there is a cycle path to the Belopeške Lakes on the Slovenian-Italian border. This is not the only part of the hike where the mountains and the water that shines almost like a mirror meet. On the way to Italy, the tree-lined shores of Lake Rabelj await those looking to relax. In summer, the water temperature reaches 20 degrees, making it perfect for swimming and practicing various water sports.
It is worth heading in the direction of Bovec on the way back, because on this road we can also admire the Boka and Virje waterfalls, which create a green oasis between the rocky mountain peaks. Climbing to the top of the nearby Svinjak Mountain offers a breathtaking panorama. If you want to spend several days in the area, the picturesque Soča Valley, the fabulous Šunik Water Grove or the tranquil Jasna Lake can also be eye-catching attractions.
