Ukrainian photographer and musician Oleg Drofa evokes the pixelated aesthetic of the 1990s in his series of photographs of Kyiv.
“I really wanted to see it in a special way, in my own way, and to capture some of the most prominent historical spots. Therefore, I decided to experiment and took all the photos on a Game Boy, the very one on which we played Super Mario Bros. on the back desks at school,” writes the author of the series.
Oleg Drufa often uses old gadgets: in this case, the camera’s sensor was just 0.014 megapixels. The sights of the Ukrainian capital in this form take us back to the pixel games of the ’90s. The images are now even available printed on T-shirts.
