The President of El Salvador has announced plans to build a 7,466-hectare “bitcoin city” in the southeast of the country, with the help of FR-EE architect Fernando Romero.
They want to build the metropolis at the base of the Conchagua volcano, as a perfect circle like a coin, with a huge letter B in the middle. The volcano plays a key part in the project as its geothermal energy would power the entire city’s electrical grid, including the mining of the cryptocurrency. Citizens are at the heart of the design: the city will be partially car-free, with a network of tramways, numerous pedestrian zones, bike lanes on every other street, and a high-speed train linking the planned airport, seaport and other neighboring cities. The city is designed to be built in stages, but no exact date has been set so far.
