When it comes to art, it’s worth turning your attention to Paris. This is where Art Basel gets its foothold by launching a new art fair in the glittering Grand Palais, home to the FIAC contemporary art fair for 47 years.
After Switzerland, Miami Beach and Hong Kong, Art Basel is now expanding to another European venue. The organization that runs the impressive Grand Palais in Paris, announced on Wednesday that MCH Group, the owner of the Art Basel brand, is adding a new contemporary art fair to its portfolio, which will be held in October each year, taking over the space occupied by the FIAC contemporary art fair.
For decades, FIAC was one of the largest French art institutions. But change seemed inevitable. The hopeful “immersive” fair will become another branch of the Art Basel brand. The name remains unknown, but one thing is for sure, it won’t be called Art Basel Paris.
