Christo and Jeanne-Claude designed the Mastaba in 1977, and now, 45 years later, almost two years after Christo’s passing, it is finally set to be realized in the Abu Dhabi desert. The public artwork is reminiscent of the London Mastaba, which was created in augmented reality shortly before Christo’s death.
The 150-meters-high, 300-meters-long and 225-meters-wide monumental sculpture will be built from 410,000 multicolored barrels, creating a colorful mosaic-like surface, referencing Islamic architecture.
