Roma iconographies at the Venice Biennale

The 59th Contemporary Art Biennale in Venice will kick off in April. The motto of this year’s festival is “The Milk of Dreams.” The Polish pavilion will host an exhibition by Polish-Roma artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas.

Małgorzata deals with anti-Roma stereotypes and works on the iconography of Roma communities. The project Re-enchanting the World is an attempt to expand Polish and European art history with the representation of Roma culture. Referring to the Biennale’s title, the artist will create an enchanted world that will function as a kind of refuge for the audience.
