Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill has passed away

The Spanish architect died on 14 January 2022, at the age of 82.

Ricardo Bofill is a prominent figure in the postmodern architecture of the 1970s and 1980s, credited with more than a thousand works in forty different countries. His unusual, monumental buildings have attracted the attention of filmmakers, video game makers and social media content producers. The Hunger Games and The Squid Game have both used Bofill’s spaces to create their own visual worlds. He founded his studio (Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura) in 1963, which functioned as a multidisciplinary workshop, working with literary scholars, sociologists and philosophers.

Among his most famous buildings are the Walden 7 apartment block in Barcelona, the Les Espaces d’Abraxas monumental housing complex near Paris, the W Barcelona Hotel and one of Calp’s main attractions, the postmodern apartment complex La Muralla Roja.
