The Calvert Journal ceased publication until further notice

Over the weekend, The Calvert Journal, a regional content provider, ceased publication. According to their statement, the website will remain online, with their archive material still accessible.

“At a time when Russian acts of war are being committed in Ukraine, we cannot in good conscience continue our work covering culture and the arts like business as usual. We are against this war in Ukraine and call for its end,” writes editor-in-chief Nadia Beard.

Launched in 2013, The Calvert Journal aims to explore the cultural values and creators of the New East, with a regional focus on Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Russia and Central Asia. The current statement says that during the break, the editorial team will rethink its mission in the light of changing European circumstances. Although The Calvert Journal is based in London, the website has featured the work of young people from Eastern Europe and Russia in recent years, regarding the latter the editor-in-chief notes, “many of them now stand in utter dismay at the actions of their government.”
