Encounters are in the focus of this year's Serpentine Pavilion | Counterspace

Designed by Johannesburg, South Africa-based architectural studio Counterspace, the pavilion opens this Friday, in Hyde Park, London. The building was originally planned to host events during the summer of 2020, but due to the pandemic, the inauguration has been delayed until now.

The pavilion pays tribute to London’s public spaces, referencing the architecture of the city’s many markets, bookshops, theaters, and other gathering spaces. Counterspace has abstracted and superimposed architectural elements from these various locations to create the form of the pavilion, open to the public until the October 17, 2021 in Kensington Gardens. Some elements of the pavilion will also appear at four London venues, such as Notting Hill and Albany, where they will seek to generate encounters and interactions among their visitors.
