The Budapest Showcase Hub kicks off today, bringing together some of the most promising artists and hot topics of the Eastern European music industry. In its sixth year, the event will take place in both established and newly opened venues in Budapest—with performers from thirteen countries.
Among the event hosts are the A38 boat, the Toldi Klub and the newly opened Turbina Cultural Centre, and for two performances the renovated Rumbach Street Synagogue will also be open to the dancing public.
Today and tomorrow, the daytime program will focus on the music industry’s most topical questions and answers, while emerging artists from the Eastern bloc will take center stage in the evenings.
Among the opening acts on the A38, Polish producer, singer, composer and songwriter Ina West will be fusing trance and dance-pop with elements of modern Polish folk and jazz. The live performance will feature classical instruments—such as drums, percussion, violin, synthesizers and bass guitar— accompanied by raw vocals.
At the Toldi Klub, you can meet, among others, the Ukrainian electro-pop group Gurt (O), who appeared with their lyrics on current issues and their contemporary sound represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest last year.
Late night at Központ, after the Ukrainian indie-pop formation Disappeared Completely, an experimental live act will take place by a producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist from Prague, Badfocus, who mixes electronica, classical music, hip-hop, or indie-pop with rich acoustic imagination.
On Friday, in the Turbina hall, one of the most unique voices of contemporary Hungarian artists, Perrin, will bring beats rooted in the funk-soul heritage of the 70s, followed closely by the soaring trio of the Romanian electronic music scene, Golan, who will fill the main hall with the melodic and dreamy tracks of their latest album.
