Vlotkamp, which means raft-camping in Dutch, is a pop-up hotel built on a Belgian lake. When designing the hotel complex consisting of eight rafts, Tobias Knockaert and Kika Merlin put the emphasis on reliving childhood dreams and post-pandemic escapism.
The structures floating in the middle of a lake are made up of tents built upon rafts, accessible only by dinghies. The rafts are made from repurposed barrels and tires and they are built to withstand even summer storms. Near the coast, a floating island accessible to the disabled was also built in the spirit of inclusivity.
