In the hustle and bustle of downtown Pest, in a well-known place, the exciting newcomer to the Hungarian gastronomic scene, Kismező, will open. Debuting on Nagymező Street, the restaurant recreates the vibrant atmosphere of Broadway, while serving small plates to share, Neapolitan pizzas and a broad selection of wines.
After the closure of the Pesti Disznó Bistro, owners Károly Gerendai, András Besztercsényi, Lajos Durgó and Attila Pusztási reopened with a new concept in Nagymező Street, in line with current trends, under the name Kismező. The name refers to the environment, but also to the volume Kismező, Nagymező, Broadway, edited by art historian Mária Kemény, which presents the urban history of the 6th district through 22 studies. At the turn of the century and during the years of the world wars, this area, bordered by Bajcsy-Zsilinszky, Andrássy and Rákóczi Avenues, was the site of the ‘Broadway of Pest,’ or the nightlife district. In Kismező, this eclectic, urbanized, high-fashion, vibrant world was also evoked in the design of the Socially agency.
The menu was dreamt by creative chef Norbert Fekete. It features small plates, with cuisines from different nations with a Mediterranean twist: pork rilette served with apricot chutney, grilled courgette salad with anchovies, slow-roasted beef with beetroot and chard, or prawns served with Harissa sauce and Padron peppers.
