Gagosian debuts new venue with never before exhibited works by Damien Hirst

The Gagosian Gallery has opened a new venue in the alpine town of Gstaad in south-western Switzerland, debuting with the exhibition Myths, Legends and Monsters, featuring paintings and drawings by Damien Hirst. The works, created over the last fifteen years, have never been exhibited before.

After launching its Basel gallery in 2019, Gagosian is now strengthening its presence in Switzerland at its Alpine venue in Gstaad. The gallery, located in the city center, was designed by Rémi Tessier, who was recently also responsible for Gagosian’s new Paris location. To mark the opening of the new cultural space, Damien Hirst will be exhibiting works he has painted over the last fifteen years.

Myths, Legends and Monsters is a series of monochrome oil paintings featuring legendary artistic, political and pop-cultural figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Bowie, Sharon Tate and Andy Warhol. The exhibition explores what makes the characters in the series truly iconic: Hirst rethinks notions of fame, identity and influence. „I tried to represent humanity—or, often, a lack of it—in all its facets, Hirst highlighted.

The exhibition is open from 14 February to 26 March.
