Google and Universal Music Group are considering a new deal

The Universal Music Group recently decided to allow Google’s new generative program using AI to use their music.

Artificial intelligence and the protection of art, including copyright, have posed major challenges for creators and distributors over the past year. Recently, several AI-generated songs have become popular on various streaming platforms, such as “Heart On My Sleeve”, a track featuring the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, which was listened to more than 600,000 times on Spotify before being removed.

Although these ‘creations’ were initially met with total rejection by the major labels, they seem to have caught the imagination of the big labels, as Universal Music Group recently entered into negotiations with Google to create a new system that would allow fans to generate their own music using the voices of their favorite artists, while the labels would continue to collect royalty payments.

Universal Music Group is based in Santa Monica, California
