LEGO’s latest set focuses on Disney villains

They may not be very nice, but we love them nonetheless: the legendary toy brick factory is dedicating a 1540-piece set to the anti-heroes of the most famous Disney tales.

This year marks Disney’s centennial, which means we can expect an extra flurry of activity from the studio this year. Not only are they releasing new content, but they’re also revisiting old favorites—and that’s where their latest collaboration with LEGO comes in. The set is interesting because, for once, it doesn’t focus on the protagonists of the stories, nor is it tied to a single movie, but rather brings together the villains from their most popular films.

The new collection is really more for the nostalgic, as evidenced by the fact that a VHS tape also appears in the set. But there are also a number of iconic Disney movie staples, such as a poisoned apple, a pocket watch, a deck of cards, and a book. The set includes nods to Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Demona, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, and more. Four LEGO minifigures have also been created to accompany the collection: Demona, Gaston, the genie turned Jafar, and Snow White’s evil stepmother in disguise. LEGO Disney’s Villain Icons will be available from June 1 this year.
