The Halič Renaissance-Baroque castle stands on a wooded hill with a picturesque panorama of the fifteen surrounding villages and the High Tatras. Documentations of the castle have survived as early as the twelfth century, and in the sixteenth century it was owned by István Losonczi and later by the famous Forgách family. Converted from a medieval fortress, the five-star Chateau Herálec is a truly exclusive accommodation in the Czech Republic. Built at the end of the thirteenth century, the fortress had changed owner several times, and was used as a holiday home by Polish soldiers after World War II. Opened in 1996, the renovated castle welcomes with exciting attractions such as the Knight’s Hall or the Marble Hall, a ghostly fireplace, secret doors or a medieval weapons collection. The castle also functions as a hotel, with three standard and seven themed rooms.
