Dóra Maurer’s installation “3 out of 5” sold for an oeuvre record prize of 31 million HUF at the Judit Virág Gallery’s auction of post-war and contemporary works.
The results of the Virág Judit Gallery’s auction of post-war and contemporary works also confirm the worldwide trend that prices for contemporary artists have reached an all-time high. Artprice’s 2021 edition of The Contemporary Art Market Report also highlights that this is currently the most dynamic and profitable sector of the art market. The current auction also set new oeuvre records: Dóra Maurer’s 1937 installation 3 out of 5, starting at HUF 12 million, sold for HUF 31 million, and Ferenc Lantos’ Contrast 3 sold for HUF 12 million.
Based on the auction results of the first half of 2021, Imre Bak leads the Top 10 list of the most expensive living Hungarian artists. One of the earliest works of his hard-edge era, entitled Lanes I, was bought for 30 million forints at the auction, while his work, entitled Charme, was sold for 22 million forints.
